Dear Haijin, visitors and travelers,
It’s my
pleasure to announce our first Carpe Diem Haiku Kai Kukai winner. It was really
a joy to make this Kukai and I have read wonderful haiku about “Wisteria”.
There were 11 contestants who wrote 23 haiku in total. As you know the contestants of the Kukai, had the opportunity to be the judge for this Kukai. I emailed them an anonymous list of the haiku with the question to give points to the haiku. They had 6 points to share: 3 for the best haiku, 2 for the second best haiku and 1 for the third best haiku.

At the end of the voting as I gathered the points there finally were two
winners. To decide who the winner would be I emailed Jane Reichhold the two
haiku to judge them for me and helping me out with this dilemma. Jane’s vote
was worth 2 points. She gave the winning haiku a wonderful comment which I love
to share here:
[…] “The idea that chandeliers are fragrant is new. The combination of chandeliers and carpet is perfect. I feel there is much to admire in this haiku”. […]

In her
comment I have removed the number of the haiku to make it more exciting … Now
it is time to announce our first Carpe Diem Haiku Kai winner … (drum roll) …
The winner of the first CDHK Kukai is Rallentanda with her haiku:

Well done to Rallentanda and Lolly! I really enjoyed the mix of styles and images in the submitted haiku and it was tough choosing my favourites. And thank you Kristjaan for your hard work in organising this on top of the detailed daily prompts - I don't know how you do it.
ReplyDeleteYeah!!! CONGRATULATIONS Rallentanda and Lolly.:)
ReplyDeleteYou did a fabulous job running this - so much work - I would post the haiku and numbers list on your website and forget emailing next time - less work and then ANYONE can vote by emailing you. But really, so much work. Each of us must invite one new person to do the Summertime prompt in order to help this grow, and when the work load grows one of us can sit out the contest and help instead. If it is any consolation I was surprised more did not like the haiku I voted for, and the haiku I thought was my best got zero points! I thought this was fantastic! Congratulations, champagne all around, ad for those of us who don't drink, a bong, though I haven't smoked for so long, so for those of us who do not drink or smoke, a coffee - by the way, having played against the Dutch national rugby team, and losing, I can say that no-one parties like the Dutch!
ReplyDeleteKristjaan, you have turned this contest outcome into a real occasion and the winning haiku is indeed a gem. What fun.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, Rallentanda and Lolly! That is wonderful! :D
ReplyDeleteIt's been quite an experience - looking forward to next month's event.
And thank YOU, Chevrefeuille, for the work in putting this all together :)
Forgot to mention - your haiku, Chevrefeuille --- very, very nice! :D
ReplyDeleteWhat splendid haiku, Rall, Lolly and Chevrefeuille. Great work on putting this together. Looks like a good application for a spreadsheet. Cheers to all who entered and participated.
ReplyDeleteThis came as a welcome surprise . Congratulations to Lolly as well.
ReplyDeleteThank you KP for all your hard work in putting on this competition. Your tireless enthusiasm and lovely haiku never cease to impress. Also thank you to Jane for her wonderful comment on my work.
OK time to party...drinks on the house all night !
Fantastic! Congratulations Rall this was a wonderful haiku and well deserved the win and congratulations Lolly ... a beautiful classical image, well deserving to be awarded! Thanks so much Chèvrefeuille for the wonderful event and I will be looking forward to the new summer Kukai
