Carpe Diem #557, Full Moon

Dear Haijin, visitors and travelers,

Today it's full moon, and as you all know, according to the Japanese the autumn moon is the most beautiful. The full moon of September is called "Harvest Moon' or 'Corn Moon'. Many of the Native American tribes' staple foods, such as corn, pumpkins, squash, beans, and rice, are ready for gathering at this time. The strong light of the Harvest Moon allowed European farmers to work late into the night to harvest their crops. The Harvest Moon does not always occur in September. Traditionally, the name goes to the full moon closest to the autumn equinox, which falls during October once or twice a decade. Sometimes the September full moon was called the Corn Moon.

Jane gives the following examples of haiku about the full moon or Harvest Moon:

harvest moon
watching a mouse hole
the ginger cat

turning out the light
renting the room to the moon
for a night

These are gorgeous and that last one inspired me to write the next haiku:
in the moonlit night
I write a moon-haiku

Isn't it awesome to write haiku in the bright light of the Harvest Moon ... must be an extraordinary experience. Now it's up to you my dear haijin, visitors and travelers.

This episode is open for your submissions tonight at 7.00 PM (CET) and will remain open until September 11th at noon (CET). I will publish our next post, a GW-post, later on. For now ... have fun!

Carpe Diem #301, Meigetsu (Harvest Moon, the full moon of September)

Dear Haijin, visitors and travelers,

Thank you all for your nice comments on our 300th prompt of Carpe Diem. You all are my energy to go on with this daily haiku meme. I am glad that you all are so loyal to Carpe Diem and that makes me feel a lucky man and you all make me enjoy the preparation of this every day writings. I am honored that you all are such wonderful people who make Carpe Diem a lovely community, family of haiku lovers and haiku poets. It makes me proud to be your host and humble that I may be your host here at Carpe Diem.

Chèvrefeuille, your host

Yesterday our prompt was about "Matsuyoi (waiting evening)" or "Little full moon" and today Meigetsu (Harvest Moon, the full moon of September) is a kind of follow up.
Here in The Netherlands the almost full moon, "the little full moon", was behind a thick veil of clouds, but sometimes she, the almost full moon, peeped through the clouds and granted us a look at her almost full face. It was a miracle and a mystery that while she was giving us a glimpse of her beautiful face a shooting star was seen just benaeath her. Really the gods celebrated her wonderful face and honored her with a shooting star. Or maybe it was just a way of celebrating our 300th prompt .... I don't know, but it inspired me to write this new episode of Carpe Diem, the 301st prompt.

As I look back I see wonderful haiku in respons on all those nice prompts and that makes me feel like I am in the Seventh Heaven. Awesome.
And there is still a lot to come. For example: November will be our first Tan Renga month. I will challenge you all with an everyday Tan Renga to complete. I love to use haiku written by you all my dear Haijin, visitors and travelers for that month. So if you would like to contribute one or two haiku written by you for that new November month of Carpe Diem ... please share them in the comment field of this episode or you can e-mail me by clicking on the caption underneath my photo above. Hope to see a lot of your haiku for that Tan Renga month. The Specials for November will be haiku from one of the classical haiku poets which I adore ... which one? You will see .... !! By the way I have published our anniversary list of prompts !!

one shooting star
beneath the full Harvest moon -
a sign of the gods?

the Harvest moon
hides her face behind the clouds
and then ... a sneak preview

full moon celebration
colorful leaves dancing
in her bright light

another day has gone -
longing for the next full moon
sound of a windchime
