Dear Haijin, visitors and travelers,

It's a sad idea, but today is our last CD-Special of this month. I have introduced a great Dutch haiku poetess to you and I think I have shared wonderful haiku (and tanka) written by her. So today her last haiku for your inspiration ... no I think I share a tanka written by her. This tanka is in my opinion a real beauty and very strong in images ...

Hito wa mina/onore o utsusu/ kagami nari/mina sariyukuyo to/emishi hito wamo

mirrors to reflect
each other
We all leave the stage, she said
and left a smile in mine

Did I say to much? A beauty isn't it. As you all know I am not that good in writing tanka and therefor I will not respond here with a tanka or a haiku. I just will sit, lean back and see how you all are going to respond ... maybe I will become inspired at least.

This was our last CD-Special and I am already looking forward to our next month's featured haiku poet, a contemporary of Shiki, who has written a lot of haiku ... and I hope you all like him as much as I do.

Carpe Diem Special #133, Fuyuko Tomita’s “how lonely”

Hello everyone!   This is Paloma, and I am helping Chèvrefeuille this weekend while he enjoys some “R&R” with his family.  While it’s a huge honor to help out – it’s also a bit intimidating.  I feel a bit like the ten-year-old girl who’s been invited to anchor the 6 o’clock news.  [Smiles.] 

So before we get started, let’s send a big *thank you* to Chèvrefeuille for what he does for us on a daily basis. 

For today, we return to our featured poet, Fuyuko Tomita. Here is a wonderful tanka I think we can all relate to:

さんさんとそそぐ朝日の文机に遺す未完の歌ぞ淋しき

Sansan to/ sosogu asahi no/fuzukue ni/ nokosu mikan no/ uta zo samishiki

How lonely I would be
left behind on my desk
an unfinished poem
in the glorious morning sun

(Note that the Japanese version is in five lines – but – as she explained to Chèvrefeuille in a separate post – the English version is slightly different.  She is translating her poem so as to keep the spirit of the original, more so than the structure of the original.)

Carpe Diem Special #132, Fuyuko Tomita's "the corner"

Dear Haijin, visitors and travelers,

It's time for another wonderful haiku written/composed by our featured (Dutch) haiku poetess Fuyuko Tomita. I think it's a beauty again, but this haiku is very different then we are used to I think. This haiku has four (4) lines and I am not sure if I could bring this back to three lines, so I haven't done that. I share it as she has done it on her website.

Kantooka  magatte shimatta  magarikado

Under a cold
street lamp
I’ve just turned
the corner

As you all know the goal of this CD-Special is to compose an all new haiku in the same sense, tone and spirit as the one given ... so here is my attempt to compose an all new haiku in (in hope) the same spirit as the one by Fuyuko Tomita.

rainy day
a stray tries to stay dry -
broken umbrella

Dear Haijin, visitors and travelers,

What a joy it was to read all of your responses on our first CD-Special by Fuyuko Tomita and I am proud that she is a fellow Dutchman and a great haiku-poetess. I don't have a lot of her haiku, but there is for sure a haiku which I can share here with you all. In fact this is one of her haiku which were published in a Dutch mindfulness magazine Happinez. As I read that article this haiku caught my attention immediately ... so here it is:

Kurogane no fuurin byakuya o nariyamazu

Black-iron wind bell
in the white summer night
tinkles on and on

And here is my response on this haiku by Fuyuko trying to become close to her spirit ... not easy I think, but ... well I have said that very often and every time I came up with a nice haiku ..., however this time I have looked through my archives.

evening walk
the sound of a wind chime
deep silence

It's my pleasure to introduce our new featured haiku poet for this month. This month we will have all haiku written/composed by Fuyuko Tomita, a well known haiku poetess and a fellow Dutchman. I haven't had that permission yet, but I love to share this haiku by her with you all to inspire you.

I think this is a nice haiku and I like the scene which she paints with her words. Really a great haiku in my opinion.
