Carpe Diem Haiku Kai is the place to be if you like to write and share Japanese poetry forms like haiku and tanka. It’s a warmhearted family of haiku poets created by Chèvrefeuille, a Dutch haiku poet. Japanese poetry is the poetry of nature and it gives an impression of a moment as short as the sound of a pebble thrown into water. ++ ALL WORKS PUBLISHED ARE COPYRIGHTED AND THE RIGHTS BELONG TO THE AUTHORS ++ !!! Carpe Diem #1797 New Beginnings ... First Snow
Dear Haijin, visitors and travelers,
First my excuses for not publishing yesterday. I had some trouble with my PC, but now it has been made, so today I will publish two episodes. This (belated) episode will be short. I will give you only the prompt and a few examples of haiku created by several haiku poets.
Today's prompt is "First Snow", it's a classical kigo for Winter and that means you have to try to create a classical haiku or tanka following the rules as I think you all will known.
The first snow
That the young Hijiri-monk has
The color of the wooden box.

Another one by Basho:
The first snow,
When is the pillar set up
For the Great Buddha?
snow's falling!
I see it through a hole
in the shutter...
© Shiki
Well ... it's up to you now to create a haiku or tanka (classical way) themed "first snow".
Here is mine:
a cold moonlit night
just the sound of fresh fallen snow -
wandering over the moors
© Chèvrefeuille
This episode is NOW OPEN for your submissions and will remain open until January 20th at noon (CEST). I will publish our new Tan Renga Wednesday episode later today. For now ... have fun!

Carpe Diem Seven Days Before Christmas 2016 #4 first snow
Dear Haijin, visitors and travelers,
We are counting down to Christmas 2016. As is the tradition here at CDHK we are doing that with our special feature Seven Days Before Christmas. As everyone does I think ... we are all dreaming of a white christmas, but a white christmas is not always there. Of course a white christmas brings the real Christmas sphere, but that's only possible if you live on the Northern Hemisphere.
Here in The Netherlands it has been several years ago that we had a white christmas and this year we will again have no white christmas it's to warm for the time of year ... so maybe we will have to dream about it.
In my opinion snow has to do with Christmas, so for this episode of Seven Days I have chosen for the prompt first snow. First snow is a classical kigo by the way and I remember that we have had that prompt earlier here at CDHK.
Let me give you a few haiku themed "first snow" to help your muses to become inspired:
first snow has fallen
prints of bare feet to the fence -
sweeping the path
virgin snow
stepping into it like a child
bare footed
prints of bare feet to the fence -
sweeping the path
virgin snow
stepping into it like a child
bare footed
winter morning
the fragile light of the sun
reflects in the snow
a cold moonlit night
just the sound of fresh fallen snow -
wandering over the moors

Well ... we are a day closer to Christmas and I hope I have inspired you.

Carpe Diem Special #167 Autumn "first snow"
Dear Haijin, visitors and travelers,
First I have to apologize, because I hadn't an internet connection yesterday, I couldn't post our new CD Special. Sorry for that.
This month all our CD-Specials are themed "autumn" and today I love to challenge you to write an all new haiku, tanka or other Japanese poetry form inspired on "first snow". I remember that we have had that prompt several times, but I think that was at the start CDHK, so I think this prompt can be used again.
I love to share a wonderful image here and two haiku composed by myself to inspire you. I hope to read wonderful haiku in response on this CD-Special.

Carpe Diem #57, first snow
Dear Haijin, visitors and travelers,
I am a little bit sad, because today is our last day of our Carpe Diem November. It was really a joy to make these every day posts for you. I am a lucky man ... you're all great and I will thank you all for your every day posts and participation. It makes me humble ...
I am glad to be your host for Carpe Diem.
Today our prompt is first snow and it's of course the 'ouverture' to our next month of Carpe Diem ... December the month of winter.

Well ... this was my last haiku for Carpe Diem November. I will prepare our first prompts for December. December will be a wonderful Carpe Diem month and a tough month I think. The prompts for December are all classical kigo or seasonwords. To me those classical seasonwords are all a bit familiar, but it will also be tough for me.
For Carpe Diem December I have created a new logo:

This prompt will stay on 'till December 1st 11.59 AM (CET) and I will post our first Carpe Diem prompt for December 'Indian Summer (koharu)' later on today around 10.00 PM (CET).
Have fun, be inspired, be creative and share your haiku with Carpe Diem.
