Carpe Diem Extra October 7th 2016 - Carpe Diem's Winter Retreat "Find the Silence"

Dear Haijin, visitors and travelers,

I have a few announcements to make, don't worry, they are all wonderful I think. First I love to inform you all already that we will have a tanka only month next month (November). Recently I read more tanka, and I think this beautiful poetry form diserves my attention here at Carpe Diem Haiku Kai. I will create November around "Teika's Ten Tanka Rules" by Jane Reichhold (as published earlier here at CDHK in January 2016) and will try to improve your tanka writing skills. As you all (maybe) know I myself am not a great tanka poet, so for me this new month of CDHK will be a challenge too.

Than I have another announcement to make. You sure will remember our first Carpe Diem Summer Retreat. I will create a new CDHK retreat, but this time it's a Winter Retreat. In this Winter Retreat I challenge you to write a haiku or tanka every day for 30 days. For this new CDHK Retreat which I have titled "Find the Silence" you don't need to register, but please let me know if you would like to participate. This new CDHK Retreat will start on November 15th and will run to December 15th 10.00 PM (CET). For this Winter Retreat "Find the Silence" I have created already a special logo.

Than a last announcement, or more a question, ... Jane Reichhold was born on 18 January 1937 and I love to create a special CDHK episode on her birthday. Do you have ideas to make it a wonderful special CDHK episode in honor of her? Please let me know through the comment field.

  1. What a wonderful idea! I really enjoyed the Summer Retreat very much and looking forward the Winter one here - on CDHK!
Ideas about Jane' s birthday episode...still thinking. Maybe something connected to the places where she lived or the things that were close to her heart next to haiku...

  2. These are all great ideas, Kristjaan. I really like the proposal for a tanka month and the chance to improve our tanka-writing skills. I couldn't join in the summer retreat but am looking forward to taking part in the winter one. How about a tan renga for Jan's birthday?

In looking at her Dictionary of Haiku, there's a wealth of ideas in Autumn Moods. :)
