Carpe Diem Extra October 9th 2016 - Call for submissions for our new CDHK kukai "autumn"

Dear Haijin, visitors and travelers,

Our "tribute to Jane" kukai has closed and I am busy to gather the submissions to publish them here to be judged, but that will take a little bit more time than I first thought, so be patient.

But ,,,, that doesn't mean that we cannot start a new kukai and that's were this CDHK Extra is about. I love to introduce to you our new kukai "autumn". Autumn we all know, colored leaves, chestnuts, spider webs and more things we know from autumn.

You don't need to use the word "autumn", but your never published earlier haiku (only haiku) must have to do with autumn. I will give you an example, by the way this one is from my archives and was published earlier:

drizzling rain and dark clouds

I didn't use the word "autumn", but in this haiku its clear that it's about autumn. Okay another one:

weeping willow
in the autumn sunlight
a golden tree

And of course you can think about classical or modern kigo to use in your "autumn"-haiku. Kigo like: Milky Way, Moon or Crickets. You can decide it yourself.

This new Carpe Diem Kukai is NOW OPEN for your submissions and will remain open until November 10th 10.00 PM (CET).

Carpe Diem Extra 34 -2015 The Results of our Third Kukai "Juxtaposition"

Dear Haijin, visitors and travelers,

After gathering all the votes I can now announce our winner of our third kukai "juxtaposition". It was a tough task this time to create a haiku for this kukai, because of the limitation that you had to use "juxtaposition" in it.
In total there were 24 haiku submitted by 9 haiku poets. And I will announce the winner in a little while, because I would ask you all something.

As you maybe remember I have asked your permission to open up the judging for the kukai also to haiku poets who didn't submit haiku. I think that it will not be a problem, but I really love to ask your opinion on it. So please share your thoughts about this with us in the comments field. Thank you.

THE RESULTS

I am proud to announce our winner for this third CDHK Kukai "Juxtaposition" .... and the winner is Ese of  Ese's Voice .... congratulations Ese you have won the opportunity to create your own e-book with a maximum of 30 pages or 50 haiku and you will be our featured haiku poetess in November 2015. Ese won this kukai with the following haiku (9 points):

Carpe Diem Extra #31 2015 "Juxtaposition" kukai judging

Dear Haijin, visitors and travelers,

It took some more time, but I finally have the anonymous list of our third kukai "juxtaposition" ready. I have published it on the kukai page which you can find in the menu above.

This kukai was not an easy one I think. There were lesser submissions than we had in our second and first kukai. It was really a challenge this time ... well it doesn't really matter, because the kukai is just for fun.

Of course there will be a winner and a runner-up this time too and you all know what that means. If you are the winner than you have won the opportunity to create an e-book with a maximum of 50 haiku or 30 pages and you will be the featured haiku poet/ess in November 2015. And our runner-up will the central poet in the first Tokubetsudesu-episode of November 2015. Why November? Well ... September is almost there and in October we are celebrating our third anniversary and that will be a great month. So this time the winner and the runner-up have to wait a little bit longer.

Today I will start our fourth kukai. This time I hope that there will be more contributors to the kukai, because I have chosen the following theme:

PEACE OF MIND

You can submit a maximum of three (new) haiku, only haiku, inspired on "Peace of Mind" and email them to: carpediemhaikukai@gmail.com please write "kukai peace of mind" in the subject line. You can submit your haiku until September 25th at noon (CET), so you have one month to respond.

Than I have another announcement to make. I have created the e-book "Bare Bones School of Renga" by Jane Reichhold and it's now available at our Haiku Kai exclusively. You can find it at the right side of our Kai. (By the way: it's the first version)

Carpe Diem Extra #24 - Changes and the results of our second kukai "summertime"

Dear Haijin, visitors and travelers,

What a joy to read all of your responses on my question about changing the name of our Haiku Kai. It makes me happy and gives me a warm feeling. We are really a family of haiku poets and however I am your host we are making CDHK together. It's great to hear that you all appreciate that I feel that you all are evolved in CDHK.
I have decided to change a few things, after reading all of your opinions. I will not change the name of our Haiku Kai, but I have changed the description of our Haiku Kai as you already have seen (read) I think.
With the change of the description of our Haiku Kai I also have decided to close Tanka Shrine and bring it to our Kai, you can find a new page above in the menu "Carpe Diem Tanka Shrine". It's my goal to make a few more pages about e.g. choka and kikobun, because Japanese poetry has a very broad range of different forms. I am trying to create those pages this week, but I am in the nightshift so I cannot guarantee that.
I hope you all appreciate the little changes which I already have made.

Results of our second Carpe Diem Haiku Kai Kukai "summertime".

In this second kukai there were 37 haiku submitted (including two by myself). All wonderfully composed and with great touch of "summertime" in it. The judging was a little bit delayed and that delay was a lucky one, because I had an ex aequo, so the delayed votes broke that tied results.
I haven't given points by the way because I knew the names of the haiku poets who did submit haiku for this kukai, and in my opinion it was only fair to not vote.

Here are the results:

It's a bit strange to write this, because Haiku 36 I wrote myself, so that means that I am the winner of this second kukai "summertime". Of course it's a joy to be the winner, but I will not grant myself with the prize for the first place.
I have decided to let our runner up, Haiku 4, by Lolly of "Look for a lovely thing" create the E-book and she will be our featured haiku poet for August. By making that choice I also grant our third place, Haiku 20, By Jen of "Blog It or Lose It", the opportunity to be the "topic" of the first Tokubetsudesu episode of August.

Carpe Diem Special #153, Rallentanda's fifth "a beautiful peace"

Dear Haijin, visitors and travelers,

Time flies if you have fun or very busy with all the things you do and have to do. Today I have our last Carpe Diem Special for your inspiration. As you all know Rallentanda was our first time winner of our Carpe Diem Haiku Kai Kukai "Wisteria" and she won the chance to be our featured haiku poetess. Rallentanda is a very gifted and talented haiku poetess and I hope to see a lot of her wonderful haiku in the future. I love to thank Rallentanda for the opportunity to use her haiku for these CD-Specials in June and I hope you all did like them as I did.

Before I share her 5th haiku here I have an announcement to make. As asked by several of you, my dear haijin, I have created a special page about the KUKAI. You can find that page above in the menu. At that page you can find the explanation of the kukai and you can find the anonymous list of haiku of our second CDHK Kukai "summertime".
As this episode of CD Special is published than the judging of our second kukai starts too. You have until July 10th 2015 to judge the entries of our second kukai. You can email your points (including the numbers of the haiku of your judging) to our email address:

Ok ... back to our CD Special. As you all know the goal of this CD Special is to write an all new haiku trying to catch the same sense, tone and spirit as the given haiku. The last CD-Special by Rallentanda is the following haiku:

a beautiful peace
I sit quietly with them
feeling their presence

This haiku you also can find in her e-book "A Carpet of Purple" which is available for downloading at the left side of our Haiku Kai.

The above image goes with the haiku by Rallentanda and maybe it well your inspiration a little bit. Here is my attempt to write a haiku in the same sense, tone and spirit as the one given by Rall. By the way I have tried the karumi style in this one:

Carpe Diem Extra #16 - 2015

Dear haijin, visitors and travelers,

As you can see I have changed a few things in the menu underneath the header of our Haiku Kai. I have removed a few pages and have brought in a few new ones.

As you can see I have two e-books placed in the menu. They are available only for reading and I will change those pages on a regular base.

The first Kukai of our Haiku Kai will close tomorrow at midnight (night between 15th and 16th) and than I will start making the list of submitted haiku. Of course there will be no names placed underneath the haiku, because in a Kukai the judging is only based on the haiku and not on the haiku poet.
As I have created the list I will email it to all those who have submitted haiku for the Kukai. To find the winner you may give three (3) haiku a point, 3 points for the haiku you find best, 2 points for a second best haiku and 1 point for third best haiku.

After you have done your judging than email the points (the list) back to our Carpe Diem Haiku Kai email ... write in the subject "judged kukai".

I will count all the points and than I will publish the final list (with names and the won points) at our Haiku Kai. Of course you may not give your own haiku points.

The winner will be granted with the honor that he/she will be our featured haiku poet in June 2015 and he/she will get the opportunity to compile an e-book (maximum of 25 pages, or 50 haiku) of his/her haiku which will be placed for downloading on our Haiku Kai.

Carpe Diem Extra #12 - 2015, Our first Kukai "Wisteria"

As you have read in one of the earlier posts ... I love to start our first Carpe Diem Haiku Kai Kukai, a haiku contest in which we are all the judges and by giving points we will decide with each other who is the winner. Let me tell you something more about Kukai ...

What is a Kukai?

A kukai is a peer reviewed poetry contest. A topic is assigned by your host(s), and all poets submit their poems on that topic to the following email address: carpediemhaikukai@gmail.com

An anonymous list is then distributed to all participating poets and they are invited to vote. Votes are returned to the host(s) who tally the votes and resend the poems to the participants, this time with names and points revealed.

How does OUR CDHK Kukai work?

I will give you a theme (or prompt/topic) to write/compose haiku about. Most times that will be a modern or classical kigo (unless otherwise stated). You don’t need to follow the classical haiku rules, but feel free to do so.
You can send your submissions for this first CDHK Kukai to the above email-address. Please write CDHK Kukai March 2015 in the subject box.

You may send a maximum of three, never published earlier, haiku including your name (or penname). !! Only haiku !!
Please send your submission for our first kukai before April 15^th at noon (CET). I will make an anonymous list of the submitted haiku and will email it to you.
Then it’s your turn to be judge. You may give 3, 2 and 1 point (3 for the best in your opinion) to three of the haiku. Of course you may not give your own haiku points.
When you are ready with judging the haiku than please email the anonymous list back to our above email-address. (Please write scored or judged haiku in the subject box).

I will gather the points and after that I will publish the list (with names) here at our Haiku Kai.

I hope to see a lot of haiku for this first kukai and I hope it will bring us joy.
