Carpe Diem Special #172 Michael Dylan Welch's 2nd Tulip festival

Dear Haijin, visitors and travelers,

How do you like this anniversary month until now? I am really excited about all the wonderful prompts I have chosen, but more than those prompts I am grateful that I may use haiku written by wonderful well known haiku poets.

Today's CD Special is another beautiful haiku by Michael Dylan Welch and it triggered me because of the first line "tulip festival", a pure Dutch (cliche) image and that's the reason why I choose this haiku for the second special by Michael Dylan Welch.

I have written a lot of haiku myself about tulips, so before I publish the haiku by Michael Dylan Welch I love to share a few haiku by myself:

First an acrostic haiku in which I have brought two world together by using the acrostichon "poetry" and the liaison "east" (more on this form HERE):

white blanket

I wrote the above haiku impromptu, I had read several haiku on tulips and was anxious to share a new one, so this haiku was the result.

Ok ... back to our CD Special a haiku by Michael Dylan Welch about, as I told you already, tulips. His haiku triggered me to share the above haiku and here is the haiku by Michael:

tulip festival—
we talk about everything
except the flowers

What a lovely haiku ... I can see the image in front of me and how strong the scene is. How sad to talk about tulips without seeing their beauty, but I can emphatize with that. As I look at myself I love to talk and sometimes while talking I am losing contact with my surroundings and yes ... than I don't see the tulips or cherry blossoms. I think that's human ...

The goal of the CD-Specials is to write/compose an all new haiku inspired on the given haiku by our featured haiku poet and trying to stay close to the emotion, sphere and spirit of the haiku given. Here is my haiku, an oldie from my archives:

on wooden shoes
the farmer plows his fields
a sea of tulips

Carpe Diem #667, Tulips

Dear Haijin, visitors and travelers,

Today we have a nice Dutch prompt, however ... Today our prompt is Tulips the flower which we, the Dutch, have made better and better, but the Tulip is not an original biological invention of the Dutch. The Tulip is a wild flower which was brought to The Netherlands from Turkey by Carolus Clusius in the 16th century. Clusius became director of the Leiden Hortus Botanicus and planted the first Tulips in The Netherlands. Why has it become a major symbol of the Dutch? Next to the wooden shoes and windmills? I honestly don't know. The only thing the Dutch have done is making the Tulip better.

Our Tulip, now a major export-article, is similar with haiku. Haiku is adopted by the world from Japan. And in every country there are haiku-poets standing up, making a name in haiku and changing the rules of haiku every day again. Haiku rules change, but the basics stay always in use, as is the original Tulip.

Today i love to share a painting by Vincent van Gogh for your inspiration. Van Gogh, i think, is more a post-impressionistic painter, but that is just my idea. Van Gogh has made wonderful paintings, but became famous after his death. 

I once wrote a haiku suite about him, i am translating it now and I hope to share it here with you this month. I composed it as i was just starting to become involved with haiku (and tanka).
Back to our prompt for today, Tulips, here is an Acrostic haiku with Tulips in the lead:

Not an easy form, but it challenged me so I had to try it. 

Haiku is an impression and more than poetry  think, because you have to tell a lot with just a few words caught in three lines. So it is an impression of the moment you love to share. This is what haiku made an Art ..., but, as Jane says in her 'Writing and Enjoying Haiku', "everyone has a haiku poet hidden inside ... s/he has to come out that cocoon which is our body". Well ... she (Jane) not really said that ... it is more my impression of what she is saying.

We, the Dutch, are very proud on our Tulips which are very famous around the globe. So ... in a way I am very proud that I can and may share an episode about Tulips here at Carpe Diem Haiku Kai. (And I don't have Tulips in my own garden, something to be ashamed of? No ... I don't really like Tulips.)

I couldn't come up with a Tulips haiku today, so I share an "oldie" in which I have changed "flowers" into "tulips". Here it is, it was first published at my personal weblog Chèvrefeuille's Haiku-blog. Feel free to visit it.

Carpe Diem #90, tulips

Dear Haijin, visitors and travelers,

As I told you all already in the Extra post mom's surgery has been cancelled. They have found a problem with one of the cardiac valves. She has had a few new examen's. The cardiologist and surgeons will look at the results and than they will, hopefully, re-schedule her surgery. I hope to tell you more later on this week.

Today our prompt is tulips and that, my friends, is a real Dutch theme. Tulips and The Netherlands are always mentioned in one sentence, but tulips aren't really Dutch, they are Turkish. The Dutch have made it a wonderful flower in thousand different colors and that's why it's called the Dutch flower. Well ... to me ... that doesn't matter tulips are just tulips (smiles).

In last year's February Challenge I posted an acrostic haiku on tulips ... maybe you have read it or can remember it, but I love to share that one here again:
