Carpe Diem Haiku Kai Weekend Meditation Summer 2022: #1 Sunrise (Crossroads Challenge)

 

Dear Haijin, visitors and travelers,

It is almost Summer 2022 (on the Northern Hemisphere) and to give you all the opportunity to create haiku this summer I have created this CDHK Weekend Meditation Summer 2022. I will create every weekend, mostly on Friday evening, an episode of this Summer 2022 Weekend Meditation, 

For this first Summer 2022 Weekend Meditation I have chosen the theme Sunrise (a Crossroads Challenge). A Crossroads Challenge means that I will give you two haiku. With those two haiku you have to create a new haiku. With that "third" haiku I challenge you to create a Troiku (more about the Troiku you can find above in the menu or by clicking HERE).

Here are the two haiku to work with, both are created by Jane Reichhold (1937-2016) and are extracted from her online "Dictionary of Haiku":

dream dancer
sleeping without a pillow
on scarred boards

Try to create a "fusion" of the both haiku to create the third haiku to work with, ofcourse you can also create a new haiku associated on the two given haiku. With that third haiku you have to create a Troiku. In short that means, create a new haiku with every separated line. The result of this Crossroads Challenge will be "four" new haiku in total.

Carpe Diem Haiku Kai #1361: A New Month starting off

 

Dear Haijin, visitors and travelers,

It seems that I am not capable of continueing CDHK as I wanted last month. There is always a kind of not having time enough. So I am trying it again. This new month, May 2022, I have chosen the theme "New Horizons". In this month I hope to post new CDHK episodes with a "look into the future" idea.

We are living in a world that is "on fire", not only through the war in the Ukraine, but we are also in a world that is in an endemic called Covid-19. Everywhere on this world we have to deal with this "new" illness and it gives us the opportunity to look into a new future, but what kind of future?

As you all know there are a lot of conspiracies going on and the most important is the silent threat of what is called "The New World Order" initiated by the wealthy Elite and several other worldwide institutions like the World Economic Forum, the World Health Organisation and the European Union and maybe you know a few others.

I am not a conspiracy thinker, but I have my thoughts and concerns about it. 

For today's challenge I have chosen for a so called "Crossroads-Haiku" and a "Troiku". To give you the challenge I have chosen two nice haiku written by Jane Reichhold (1937-2016), one of our best modern haiku poets.

Here are the two haiku to work with:

the night is shortened
by your letters on the pillow
here beside me

the road before us
departing clouds bright
with a rising sun

The goal is to create a new (third) haiku from these two haiku. You can fuse the actual lines of the haiku, or create a new haiku through association on the both haiku.

Carpe Diem #1843 Troiku Challenge 1: Mist Clouds

Dear Haijin, visitors and travelers,

It has been a while that I posted here at Carpe Diem Haiku Kai, but that had to do with being very busy in health and because of circumstances in my family. Now I am trying to "re-start" our wonderful Haiku Kai, the place to be if you like Japanese Poetry forms such as Haiku and Tanka.

To "restart" I have chosen to first publish only once a week. Mostly that will be on Wednesday, but it can be that I post on another day.

As you noticed ... today I introduce to you all a new feature titled "Carpe Diem Troiku Challenge". As you all know several years ago I invented this new creative way of writing haiku. Troiku comes from two words "troika" and "haiku".

The Troika is a Russian sledge pulled by three horses and a haiku has three lines. The goal is to create a Troiku, that means you have to create a new haiku with every separated line of the haiku. So you start with a haiku as the "sledge", with every line you create a new haiku, that means three haiku "the horses". More about this creative way of haiku-ing you can find above in the menu.

For this first episode of our new feature Carpe Diem Troiku Challenge I will give you a haiku to work with. In other words "I give you the sledge" and you have to create the "horses". I have chosen a beautiful haiku by Jane Reichhold.

Carpe Diem #1840 Hoarfrost

 

Dear Haijin, visitors and travelers,

Finally a few days off. So time to publish a new post in our wonderful Haiku Kai. This month our theme is "autumn leaves". We are already running to winter here on the Northern hemisphere, so we have had already our first hoarfrost. That fragile kind of frost created by fog ... so I thought we can create haiku about "hoarfrost".

Carpe Diem Celebrates Its 8th Anniversary October 2020: #1837 blowing in the wind

 

Dear Haijin, visitors and travelers,

First I have to apologize to you all. Last week I had a very busy week, because of a new Covid outbreak, so as an oncology nurse I had to take care for my patients. So there was no time to create the posts here on CDHK.

I had a complete different idea of our celebration month, but ... well it is still a celebration month, but with a less more posts than I had hoped.

I think you all will know Bob Dylan, he is the first songwriter who won the Nobel prize for literature and I think he deserved it. He has written wonderful songs, but my favorite song by Bob Dylan is "Blowing In The Wind".

So today's task is to create a haiku, and if you want, a troiku from that haiku, inspired on this wonderful song by Bob Dylan.

Welcome at a new weekend meditation here at our wonderful Haiku Kai. I am a bit late with publishing, but I am in the nightshift. This weekend I will give you a nice "fusion-ku" challenge, or "crossroads". That nice special feature in which I ask you to create a "fusion-ku" from two given haiku. Your "fusion-ku" you have to use to create a Troiku (more about Troiku, you can find above in the menu).

Two beautiful haiku, with two very different scenes ... both haiku-poets are modern time poets and they are both well known also.

Your task ... create a "fusion-ku" from the two haiku given and create with your "fusion-ku" a Troiku, that nice modern way of creating haiku, based on the Russian sleigh "troika".

The last days were very busy, so I couldn't publish or regular Friday episode and a bit late with the Weekend Meditation. My excuses for it.

This weekend I love to challenge you to create a Troiku Hineri. What doea it mean? I will give you a haiku. With that haiku you create a Troiku. Than you have three new haiku. The Hineri (with a twist) is that I love to challenge you to create with those three new haiku NINE new haiku following the Troiku idea, so you have to create three new haiku from every haiku you created from the given haiku.

I have chosen one of the first haiku by Yozakura, the Unknown Haiku Poet. Here is his first haiku to work with:

yoake ni arau tsuyude watashino ashisaichoubi

I wash my feet with dew

As you all know one of the renown modern haiku poets was Jane Reichhold (1937-2016), she was a co-author here and co-host. She is still missed.

This month our theme is "Never Change A Winning Team" and it's all about haiku, my first love. In the seven years of CDHK I have always tried to stay with my first love, haiku, but that changed during the years.

From the haiku I invented a few new poetry forms, like the Troiku and the "fusion-ku". Today I love to bring both forms together. I have chosen two haiku by one of the renown classical masters and your task is to create a "fusion-ku" and to create a Troiku with that "fusion-ku".

Carpe Diem #1771 Firefly ... Troiku-challenge

Dear Haijin, visitors and travelers,

Welcome at a new (somewhat delayed) episode of our wonderful Kai were we are celebrating our 7th birth day. Seven years ago I started CDHK just to give an opportunity to create Japanese poetry on a daily basis. As I started I hadn't one clou how long it would go on ... and look were we are now ... seven years later CDHK is still alive and kicking.

While we are celebrating our 7th birthday we honor the "small creatures" of Mother Nature and so today I have another "little creature" for you to work with. Today I have chosen for the "firefly", that small creature that is renown for its glowing behind.

I have found a wonderful haiku to work with. The goal this time is to create a Troiku with that haiku. More on Troiku you can find above in the menu. Troiku is a nice creative way of haiku-ing I invented back in 2012.

A beauty I would say. It's not a well known haiku by Buson, but in this one you can almost sense the hand of Buson is moved by Basho. That's an important thing, because at first Buson was not a "fan" of Basho's way of haiku writing, but later he started to write his haiku more and more modelled according to Basho's way of haiku writing.

Our bouquet of wild flowers grows every day, but today I don't have chosen a real wild flower, but more suitable for your garden, but it can be used in bouquets, so I think today's summer flower fits really good in our bouquet of wild flowers.

Carpe Diem #1711 flowers (modern kigo) - Troiku

Welcome at a delayed episode of our wonderful Haiku Kai. My excuses for being this late, but today it was to hot to create a new episode. Another weather record has been broken here in The Netherlands. Today it was almost 41 degrees Celsius and that's hot for our Dutch people. It is still hot right now (23:00 hr) almost 30 degrees Celsius and I am sweating as I have never done before.

Today I have chosen a modern kigo from Jane Reichhold's "A Dictionary of Haiku", from the section Summer, subsection plants ... today our theme is flowers. Carpe Diem #1709 shadow (Crossroads-Troiku)

Dear Haijin, visitors and travelers,

Welcome at a new episode of our wonderful Kai. This month we have all prompts about "Summer Love". I love summer, but at the moment I "hate" summer because here in The Netherlands we have a heatwave. It's more than 30 degrees Celsius and later this week we will have temperatures around 40 degrees Celsius. For us dutch people this is really to hot ... but we have to deal with it. That's why my wife and I are always seeking for shadow to cool down. That brings me to the prompt for today "shadow".

Today I love to challenge you to create a Troiku with a so called "fusion-haiku", that new haiku created from two given haiku ... a crossroads episode this will be. Here are the two haiku to work with:
