Carpe Diem Extra March 4th 2018 a few things I love to share

Dear Haijin, visitors and travelers,

I have a few things that I love to share here with you. First I hope to publish the results of the Troiku kukai later on this week. I am very busy at work, so I cannot guarantee if I will succeed in this ... but we will see.

As I told you earlier this week my mom is hospitalized because cardiac failure. She has had medicines and slowly she is recovering. Thank you all for your warmth thoughts and prayers.

Than I love to invite you to be part in a new Renga session here at Carpe Diem Haiku Kai. Maybe you can remember that we have done this earlier. One of the Renga was titled "In The Twilight". You can find that renga above in the menu or by following this link.

For this new CDHK Renga party I have chosen a haiku written by one of the classic haiku poets, renown haiku poet Matsuo Basho. The haiku, which I love to use, was written in Autumn 1689. The title for this renga is: "best for seeing the moon". As the title of this renga tells us the haiku is a real autumn verse. As you (maybe) know the moon is a seasonword for autumn. In Japan they find the moon of autumn the most beautiful and there are lot of haiku written with the autumn moon. The moon was (and is still) a seasonword for autumn. In my country, The Netherlands, poets find the moon of winter the most beautiful. Maybe that's true, but as a haiku poet I find the moon of autumn the most beautiful and spectacular. Why? I can't say why it's a feeling. Maybe it's because of my interest in the classical haiku, maybe it's because the Japanese haiku poets have written such beautiful haiku about the autumn moon.

Here is the haiku, the hokku of this renga party, by Basho:

let's visit the places
best for seeing the moon
sleeping on a journey

©Matsuo Basho

This haiku was part of a 15 link renga written at the house of Tosai, who lived in Fukui. The renga was recorded by Miyazaki, a disciple of Basho in Ogaki. By the way Miyazaki recorded it in Basho O Tsuki Ichiya Jogo Ku.

Which places are the best for moon viewing? The shore, the mountains, a Temple or what ever?I look at the moon from my backyard, because I love the sight of the moon rising up above the surrounding houses. It's leaving me in awe as the moon rises just around a chimney. Or as a mysterious circle behind thin clouds. I love the moon of every season, but ... it's true in autumn the moon is the most beautiful.

Are you with me? You can subscribe to this CDHK Renga Party "best for seeing the moon" through the comment field. We will create a so called "kasen-renga" (a renga of 36 verses). The subscription for this Renga Party is NOW OPEN and will run to March 18th 10:00 PM (CET). Than I will make the line-up.

Have a nice week and I hope you will participate in this new CDHK Renga Party.

Carpe Diem Renga Party #3 Summer Moonlight

Dear Haijin, visitors and travelers,

It's my pleasure to start with our Third Renga Party "Summer Moonlight". This Renga Party has 10 participants and the "hokku" is written by Dolores Fegan.
This Renga Party we are creating a traditional "summer" kasen-renga of 36 links. You have to try to respond within 24 hours by writing your link (stanza) in the comment field. As you have written your comment please ask in your comment your successor to write his / her link by "saying": Your turn (name of successor).

Between [ ] you find how much lines you have to write and which "theme" you have to use.

Some of you have to write two links on a row, because of a "turn" in the kasen-renga. The following participants have to write two links on a row: Candy, Kim M. Russell and Nimi Arora.
I hope that this Renga Party will be a success. Have fun!

Carpe Diem Renga Party #3 summer moonlight

Dear Haijin, visitors and travelers,

I love to start a new Renga Party together with you, my dear CDHK family. This time I love to create a "kasen-renga", this is a renga with 36 stanza. The startdate of this new Renga Party is June 20th.

For this new Renga Party I have asked Dolores of "Ada's Poetry Alcove" to write the "hokku". Dolores provided me with a wonderful series of "hokku" from which I could choose. For this new Renga Party "summer moonlight", the "hokku" is the following:

summer moonlight
steals my sleep again
I stroll down the lane

© Dolores

summer moonlight

As you maybe remember you had to sign up for participating in the Renga Party. I will prolong that idea here again.

So if you would like to participate in this new edition of our Carpe Diem Renga Party "summer moonlight" than please sign up and let me know it through the comments field of this post.
You can sign up for this Renga Party until June 15th 2016 10.00 PM (CET).
I hope to see you all participating in this new Renga Party.

After the above mentioned "closing-time" I will create a "line-up" in which I hope to distribute the participants as fairly as possible.

Have a great weekend,

Namaste,

Chèvrefeuille, your host.

Carpe Diem Extra April 16th 2016 - restarting the second (2nd) Renga Party

Dear Haijin, visitors and travelers,

As you all (maybe) know we had a publishing issue earlier this year and I had to change some things. A result of that issue was also that I had to look at the Renga Party. I have done that and those who played part in the above mentioned issue weren't participating in the Renga Party. So we can restart today.

!!!! You can find the link to the Renga Party highlighted at the left side of our Kai !!!!!

This Renga is almost ready we will go on from stanza 39 and that means that Georgia (a.k.a. Bastet) has to write this stanza. To make it easier I will give the "line-up" here:

39. [3] N Georgia

40. [2] A Kim Russell

41. [3]  N Nimi Arora

42. [2] W Jazzytower

43. [3] SP Candy

44. [2] SP Dove Dungeon, should relate to #1 in some way and close the work -- ageku

The last stanza, before the break, was written by me:

in front of the fireplace
red shadows on the white walls

I will give the explanation of the "characters" between [ ] here another time:

[SP=spring; SU=summer; A=autumn; W=winter; N=non-seasonal or free as in without theme]

I hope we can complete this Renga together in the upcoming week. Have fun!

Namaste,

Chèvrefeuille, your host

Carpe Diem Renga Party 2

Dear Haijin, visitors and travelers,

As you all can see and read, the renga has been broken, but in this case Lothar can not do something about it, because he has problems with his Internet. So I have decided to step in and write the next chain in our renga.

early sunrise
children play on the beach
dragonkite against blue

It's your turn Christy, you can link your verse at the renga party page as you can find by clicking the highlight in the left of our Kai.

Namaste,

Chèvrefeuille

Carpe Diem Extra January 23rd 2016 Second Renga Party

Dear Haijin, visitors and travelers,

I saw that there is already a link posted in the comment field by one of our family members, but that family member is to early with posting.

It's intended to follow the list. Every link has to be written by one of the participants within 24 hours. The goal is to write your link at the time that it's your turn. For example:

1. [3] SP Georgia -- hokku
2. [2] SP Kim Russell
3. [3] SP Nimi Arora
4. [2] N Jazzytower
5. [3] MOON/A Candy
6. [2] A Dove Dungeon

The intention is that Kim has to write her/his link; than Nimi, because you need the link before you. After Nimi it's Jazzytower's turn and so on. Every participant has 24 hour to write his/her link. Please follow the list as given in the Renga Party post of January 22nd 2016.

I hope this explanation helps you to create a wonderful Renga together.

Namaste,

Chèvrefeuille, your host.

Carpe Diem Renga Party #2 white dusted meadow (startdate: January 22nd 2016)

Dear Haijin, visitors and travelers,

What a joy to bring the start of our new Renga Party "white dusted meadow". It's the second time we are doing this and I hope you all will like it. Let me first tell you the goal of this Renga Party. Making a Renga together is just for fun and it learns you how you can improve your haiku writing skills through association.

Every link, in this Yoyoshi 44, has it's own season or theme which are already given in the list. In the list you can see BOLD printed abbreviations, which are explained above the list, which correspond with the season or theme you have to use.

The link before you you have to use to associate on to write your own link. I have a little time rule: you have to respond within 24 hours to write your link. Your created link you write down in the comments field including an invitation to the one after you e.g. it's your turn Hank.

Our first Renga was a so called "kasen-renga" and had 36 links, so it was slightly shorter than the "yoyoshi". For this "yoyoshi" I have asked Georgia (a.k.a. Bastet), our featured haiku poetess of last December, to write the starting verse or "hokku".

Here is the "hokku" of this "yoyoshi":

white dusted meadow
remembering spring’s glory
tufts of pampas grass

© Georgia (a.k.a. Bastet)

The title of this Yoyoshi is the first line of the hokku.

Here is our list for this Renga Party:
white dusted meadow

[SP=spring; SU=summer; A=autumn; W=winter; N=non-seasonal or free as in without theme]

A few basis rules to remember. Avoid repeating a noun or verb in the work. Switch subject matter so there are not too many verses on food or water, etc. Link ONLY to the verse above and not to any other. Use the words "insects" and "dreams" only once in a poem.

1. [3] SP Georgia -- hokku
2. [2] SP Kim Russell
3. [3] SP Nimi Arora
4. [2] N Jazzytower
5. [3] MOON/A Candy
6. [2] A Dove Dungeon

7. [3] A Dove Dungeon
8. [2] N/LOVE Writersdream9
9. [3] N/LOVE Ese Klava
10. [2] N/LOVE Dolores
11. [3] N Thom Amundsen
12.[2] N Gayle Rose
13. [3] MOON/SU Hank (Kaykuala)
14. [2] SU Lothar
15. [3] SU Christy
16. [2] N Celestine
17. [3] FLOWER/SP Milan

35. [3] FLOWER/SP Celestine
36. [2] W Milan

37. [3] SU Milan

41. [3]  N Nimi Arora
42. [2] W Jazzytower
43. [3] SP Candy
44. [2] SP Dove Dungeon, should relate to #1 in some way and close the work -- ageku

Well ... I hope you all like this list and I hope this Yoyoshi will become a beauty as was our first "kasen-renga" in our first Carpe Diem Renga Party.

Have fun!

By the way: Georgia your hokku is already on, so the first who has to write a link is Kim Russell.

Sign up for our second Renga party

Dear Haijin, visitors and travelers,

Last August we had our very first Renga Party and I love to create another Renga together with you all. This time I love to create a

“yoyoshi”, a renga of forty-four links. Maybe you can remember this "yoyoshi" from Carpe Diem #884, I shared a note about it in that post.

Our first Renga was a so called "kasen-renga" and had 36 links, so it was slightly shorter than the "yoyoshi".

For this "yoyoshi" I have asked Georgia (a.k.a. Bastet), our featured haiku poetess of this month, to write the starting verse or "hokku".

Here is the "hokku" of this "yoyoshi":

white dusted meadow
remembering spring’s glory

As you maybe remember you had to sign up for participating in the Renga Party. I will prolong that idea here again.

So if you would like to participate in this new edition of our Carpe Diem Renga Party "white dusted meadow" than please sign up and let me know it through the comments field of this post.
You can sign up for this new Renga Party until January 12th 2016 10.00 PM (CET)

I hope to see you all participating in this new Renga Party.

Carpe Diem Renga Party #1 In The Twilight (completed)

Dear Haijin, visitors and travelers,

I have finally found time to publish our first Carpe Diem kasen-renga “In The Twilight”. It was an experiment, but I think it has become wonderful. It was really a joy to follow the growth of this renga and I am so glad that it has become a beauty. Thank you all for participating in this first Carpe Diem Renga Party.

A Renga, as we have created here is called a kasen-renga of 36 links. But ... there were (of course) strict rules. As we look at ancient kasen-renga than there were for example links in which you had to use kigo (seasonwords) like moon and in a kasen-renga there was always the whole year, in fact in every renga you will find all seasons.

Carpe Diem's Renga Party #1 In The Twilight -- update !!

Dear Haijin, visitors and travelers,

My excuses for this Renga Party Update, but I have a little change in the "line-up". Georgia asked me to change places with Usha or Dancing Echoes, because she cannot participate in the "first round" at the place in "line-up" as planned. So I have a little change to give Georgia the opportunity to participate. Georgia ... I have changed you with Usha, so you (Georgia) have to write/compose link 9 and Usha you have to write/create link 11.

First the old "line-up" part:

7.[3][A] Sky
8.[2] [Misc. / Love] Lolly
9.[3][Misc. / Love] Usha
10.[2][Misc. / Love] Dancing Echoes
11.[3] [Misc.] Georgia
12.[2] [Misc.] Dolores

And here is the new "line-up" part, the changes are highlighted in red:

7.[3][A] Sky
8.[2] [Misc. / Love] Lolly
9.[3][Misc. / Love] Georgia
10.[2][Misc. / Love]
Dancing Echoes
11.[3] [Misc.] Usha
12.[2] [Misc.] Dolores

Sorry for this little change, but I love to give you all, who registered, the opportunity to participate.

Warm greetings,

Chèvrefeuille, your host.

Carpe Diem Extra 28 - 2015 CDHK's first Renga Party

Dear Haijin, visitors and travelers,

It's my pleasure to present to you our "line-up" for our first Carpe Diem Ranga Party. There were 17 CDHK family members (including myself) who registered to participate in this Renga Party. I will publish the list somewhat later in this post. First I will tell you how this will going to work. I hope I can explain it good enough ...

In this first CD Renga Party "in the twilight" we will create a classical kasen-renga of 36 links. The first link is the so called "hokku" (starting-verse) and for this first Renga Party I have provided a haiku composed by myself:

in the twilight
mist creeps over the fields -
stars twinkle

© Chèvrefeuille, your host

Renga is a chained poem written by at least two poets. Every link has a season as theme, but there are several links with another theme. I will highlight those links in the "line-up", at three places in the "kasen renga", the turning points so to say, there are two links following each other written by one poet.
Every link "needs" the former link, because you have to associate on the "images" in that former link to write the next link.

Of course we are not together in one room, so every participant (you all will get a "clinical" number), has to wait for his/her turn. You have a maximum of 24 hours to write/create your link and post it in the comments field beneath the post of the Renga Party. If you have written your link, please "invite" the successor poet to write his/her link with the following words (or something like that) " (name of your successor) your turn!" !! PLEASE WAIT UNTIL IT'S YOUR TURN, because you need the link before you !!

As all is going according the plan, than this Renga Party "in the twilight" will be ready around September 20th. Than I will bring all the links together and will publish our first CDHK kasen-renga "in the twilight" in a post here at CDHK.

Just a last thing before I will bring the "line-up". Because of the fact that this first Renga Party will last for somewhat a month, you can find the Renga Party above in the menu. Please write your "link" in the comments-field of that page. I hope this will become a wonderful Renga and I hope that you all did understand how it is working.

Here is our "line-up":

[SU = summer; A = autumn; W = winter; SP = spring; Misc. = non-seasonal references -- usually about people or feelings or places; Love = well you can decide... Moons are always autumn unless you name it a summer or winter or spring moon] (The numbers after the link-numbers refer to the lines to use, so [2] is two lines and [3] is three lines)

This was the “line up” for our first Carpe Diem Renga Party. As you see you all will have two links to write and a few of you three links to write.
!! Celestine I have tried to follow your question and I think I have succeeded ... if not than please let me know.

Ok ... my wonderful loving haiku family members let’s do some Renga-ing good luck and have a lot of fun!

Carpe Diem Renga Party an Introduction to a new feature

Dear Haijin, visitors and travelers,

I think I have a nice new feature for our loving family of haiku poets. Maybe you can remember that we had a renga session feature at CDHK, but it died a silent death, and for a while I thought that renga cannot be done at CDHK.
Recently I have read Jane Reichhold's "Writing and Enjoying Haiku" and in that book Jane has written a chapter about renga. As I read that chapter I thought "maybe I have to try this again, because renga was the "birthplace" of haiku". That's the reason why I have created a new CDHK feature which I love to introduce here ... this new CDHK feature is titled "Carpe Diem Renga Party".

Credits: Renga platform (worth visiting)
Let me tell you how I see this Renga Party in front of my eyes or in my mind ... what ever (smiles). As you all know Renga is written with a group of haiku poets whom are writing alternately a stanza (link) of the Renga. It's a pleasant time passing acitivity and it can help you to improve your haiku skills or associative skills to become an even better (haiku)poet.

For this Carpe Diem Renga Party you have to register. After the registering period, say one week, I will create a list in which you can see when it's your turn to write a stanza and which stanza you have to write.

For example:

1. 5-7-5, the hokku which I will provide the first Renga Party

2. 7-7, Jen (Blog It Or Lose It)

3. 5-7-5, Hamish (Haiku Forest)

and so on

You have to follow the stanza, so you have to wait until your predecessor has written his/her stanza, because you need the stanza before your turn to write your stanza.
The stanza you have to post in the comments field. There will not be a linking widget in this feature, because that's to complicated to create.
After all the registered participants have written (and posted) their stanza I will create the Renga which is the result of this Renga Party and publish it at our Haiku Kai.

The time to write the Renga will be approximately four (4) weeks.

I hope you all understand the meaning of this new feature and that I have explained the way it works in clear words (I hope so).

For our first Carpe Diem Renga Party the subscription starts today and will run until August 5th 2015. So if you would like to participate in our first Renga Party ... let me know it through the comments field of this post.

I have already selected a haiku to start our first Carpe Diem Renga Party with, the hokku:

in the twilight
mist creeps over the fields -
stars twinkle

© Chèvrefeuille, your host

I am looking forward to be your host for our first Renga Party "in the twilight".

Namaste
