Carpe Diem #537, Truth

Dear Haijin, visitors and travelers,

What an awesome month we have ... Khalil Gibran's "Sand and Foam" has so much richness hidden in it and it is amazing to see and read all your responses on the 'verses' by Khalil. It's really a honour to be your host at CDHK ... I am a lucky man, because I can and may share my posts with you all and read all of your wonderful haiku. Thank you all ... for being a family-member of CDHK.

Today our prompt is truth, but what is truth? I have sought on the Internet for the meaning of 'truth' and it was awesome. A few examples of 'truth'.

The quality or state of being true: “he had to accept the truth of her accusation”.

That which is true or in accordance with fact or reality:  “tell me the truth”; “she found out the truth about him”.

A fact or belief that is accepted as true: “the emergence of scientific truths”; “the fundamental truths about mankind”.

And now ... let us take a look at a few 'verses' by Khalil Gibran about 'truth'. In his "Sand and Foam" he has written several aphorisms on 'truth' and I think they are all great.

[...] "I am ignorant of absolute truth, but I am humble before my ignorance, and therein lies my honor and my reward". [...]

[...] "Many a doctrine is like a window pane. We see truth through it, but it divides us from truth". [...]

[...] "Should you care to write (and only the saints know why you should) you need to have knowledge of the art and magic of the music of words, the art of being artless and the magic of loving your readers". [...]

[...] "When you reach the heart of life you shall find beauty in all things, even in the eyes that are blind to beauty". [...]

Aren't they wonderful verses? Truth is in all of us, but your truth is maybe different from mine. Why? Well we are raised in different countries, with different religions, different laws and by different parents. And that makes us unique ... we are all unique, we are all who we are or whom we have become.

It's not an easy task to 're-form' the 'verses' by Gibran into haiku, and that is for sure in this 'case', with this prompt. So I wish you all a lot of inspiration ... take your time, meditate and contemplate about 'truth' ... than you will get the insight you need to have to compose an all new haiku inspired on 'truth'.

  1. Your post if FULL of inspiration and zest for life!
Such a different haiku from the one about the photo of the old woman. Which is better? Who can say? There is no truth in that - they cannot be measured against each other.

  2. Whew.. this was a difficult prompt.. the window resonated quite a lot with me.. I think the word truth has done more damage to the world than most other words.. and yes the doctrines are too often passed for truth.. the bliss of seeing the truth in a drop of water is a great wish..
